Damage caused when tapping a new elevated storage tank presents the risk of contamination to bacteria. Texarkana Water Utilities said that bacteria could be particularly hazardous to children, seniors, and immunocompromised people.
TWU said water should be brought to a boil and then boiled for two minutes during the notice. The commission recommends that all customers boil water before any consumption, including hand and face washing, brushing their teeth, drinking, or using it for cooking or ice.
The public water system will issue a notice to rescind the water boil when it is no longer necessary.
