By rssfeeds-admin Albert Winfield tells WGN-TV his son was Treyvon Winfield, a 19-year-old soon-to-be graduate of Morgan Park High School who was shot in his car not far from the Chicago Police Department’s 5th District station Tuesday night and died later at an area hospital.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has also confirmed the victim’s identification.
“My son was a good person, a good child,” Albert Winfield said. “He was getting ready to graduate from high school, Morgan Park High School. He was a senior.”
According to police, the shooting happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of West 115th Street when an unknown male suspect walked up to a car with Treyvon Winfield inside and opened fire, hitting him several times.
When officers arrived, they found Winfield with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he was treated and subsequently pronounced dead, according to police.
“He was looking forward to prom and graduation and all the things that young people should look forward to,” Pastor Donovan Price said. “This is some kind of nightmare, but unfortunately it’s real.”
Police say the suspect fled in an unknown direction after shooting Winfield.
Police were at the scene gathering evidence late into Tuesday night. Nobody is yet in custody, and police have not yet released any description of a suspect.
