Utah builder featured in HGTV show — Here’s how you can see the homes

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Utah-based home-building company will be featured on the HGTV series “Rock the Block,” and after the season airs, Utahns will have the chance to tour — and purchase — the homes featured on the show.

HGTV chose Utah’s Hamlet Homes as the builder for each of the homes in all the episodes of season six, which premieres tonight. Hamlet Homes has partnered with “HomeAid Utah,” a local branch of the nonprofit HomeAid, which helps to fight homelessness in Utah.

A private event will be hosted on premiere night to promote awareness for Hamlet’s partnership with HomeAid Utah. There will also be a party following the show’s finale with an auction where proceeds will go to the nonprofit.

“We partner with ‘HomeAid’ on a lot of projects. HomeAid is an organization that builds homes for the homeless through other community partners using the builders in the market,” said Tami Ostmar, owner and VP of marketing. “We’ve been a long-time partner with them, helping them out. Part of our block party weekend, that will be after the finale, we’ll have auction items from the show where some of the proceeds will go to HomeAid.”

Hamlet Homes focuses on crafting townhomes and single-family homes in Utah and Idaho. Since the company’s beginnings in 1995, Hamlet Homes has built over 5,000 homes in 80 communities.

Jon Southern, owner and chief operating officer of Hamlet Homes, said that learning the homebuilding company was chosen for the show was an exciting moment for the team.

“We knew it was going to be a challenge. We rose to the occasion. It’s a lot of hours. It’s a lot of work from our entire team. Everyone in our company was involved in this. I think everyone’s really excited now to see the final product and really just start enjoying watching the shows,” he said.

The homes built in season six of “Rock the Block” are at an undisclosed location in Utah. After the finale, the four homes seen on “Rock The Block” can be toured by the public at the finale party, which will take place May 30th and 31st. The homes will then be available to purchase, and interested buyers can contact Hamlet’s sales office.

About the show

In “Rock the Block,” teams face off to renovate homes with their signature styles. This season, judges will tour the homes without the teams present, working to determine which home will come out on top in the end.

Season six will feature former competitors and returning judges, such as Alison Victoria (“Sin City Rehab”), past “Rock the Block” champion and designer Michel Smith Boyd (“Luxe for Less”), and home restoration duo Jonathan Knight (“Farmhouse Fixer) and brother Jordan Knight (“Farmhouse Fixer: Camp Revamp”).

Competing teams will include married renovators Chelsea and Cole DeBoer (“Down Home Fab”), as well as Kamohai and Tristyn Kamala (“Renovation Aloha”).

Hamlet Homes filmed behind-the-scenes footage of every episode. After each episode airs, a behind-the-scenes episode will be available to watch online.

“This has really challenged us … I think we didn’t know what we were getting into in the beginning. I had no idea, and it is kind of outside of our realm. But I think what it did for us is it made us realize that our team is capable of those kinds of challenges,” Ostmar said. “So I would encourage any business to kind of put your team through a project or do something that is outside of what your normal everyday work is so that you can see that your team is capable of those challenges.”
