According to the DA’s office, the investigation found it was a lawful use of force by Abington Township police officers. The man killed has been identified as Wyleek Tinsley, who lived at the apartment with his girlfriend and her child.
At 11:07 a.m. on March 6, 2025, Abington Township Police were dispatched to the Rosemore Garden Apartments after a child called 911 and said her mother’s boyfriend, Wyleek Tinsley, “just shot a gun at her. I don’t know if she’s hurt or not.” According to Steele, she told the dispatcher that a door in the apartment had been broken down, and she was afraid of being shot by Tinsley. The child left the apartment after the 911 dispatcher urged her to.
Abington Police officers arrived at 11:16 a.m. and entered the apartment complex. While the officers were still outside, they heard a woman screaming, which prompted officers to force entry into the apartment, according to DA Steele. After the officers entered, a man appeared at the end of a dark hallway, holding an object. Police fired their weapons, then immediately rendered first aid. The object was later determined to be a cell phone.
Other officers continued down the hallway and found the woman in a bedroom, physically unharmed.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, police recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 30 Super Carry firearm in the bedroom. Investigators found Tinsley’s DNA on the gun. Two shell casings were recovered from the bedroom floor, and one shell casing was recovered from a living room cabinet. Two bullet holes were found in the bedroom walls.
Per protocol, the Montgomery County Detective Bureau conducted the independent investigation. DA Steele says the Abington Township Police Department and the officers involved cooperated with the investigation. Detectives interviewed numerous officers and witnesses and reviewed police body camera footage, recorded radio transmissions, and the 911 call. Investigators also collected and tested on-scene evidence.
