The temple in West Jordan was first announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2024 general conference for the religion. The 85,000-square-foot temple is expected to be built on a 16.10-acre plot of land to the west of State Route 111, according to the church.
Recently, during the April 2025 general conference, Nelson announced that a new temple would be coming to Spanish Fork, Utah. The temple in Spanish Fork will be the 31st temple for the Church of Jesus Christ in the Beehive State.
In addition to releasing a rendering for the West Jordan Utah Temple, the Church of Jesus Christ announced the open house and dedication dates for the Antofagasta Chile Temple and the Bahía Blanca Argentina Temple.
The temple in Chile was first announced in April 2019 and will be dedicated on June 15, 2025. Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple. A public open house has been scheduled for May 14 to May 24, 2025.
In the Latter-day Saint faith, dedicating a building typically means saying a “special prayer designating the building for Church use,” according to Church Newsroom. These dedication ceremonies also tend to include musical numbers and addresses from church leaders.
The Bahía Blanca Argentina Temple will be dedicated by Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Nov. 23, 2025. The open house for the temple in Argentina has been scheduled for Oct. 16 through Nov. 1, 2025.
The Argentina temple was first announced by Nelson in April 2020.
Since becoming the faith’s leader in 2018, the church says Nelson has announced a total of 200 new temples.
In the Church of Jesus Christ, temples differ from chapels, where members regularly meet. While members of the faith (and guests who aren’t members) can enter chapels for weekly services on Sundays, temples are considered “the most sacred places on earth” and are not completely open to the public, the church explains.
Last year, Nelson announced 15 new temples in April 2024 and another 17 new temples in October 2024. Also last year, the church dedicated 16 temples, bringing the total number of operating temples for the religion to 194, according to the church’s statistics from the end of 2024.
New temples are typically announced during the church’s worldwide general conference, which is held twice each year: First in April and then in October. The individual sessions of the conference are each about two hours long and take place at various times during the weekend gathering.
According to its statistics, the church had a reported membership of more than 17.5 million people worldwide, with more than 31,600 congregations, as of December 2024.
