Written from press release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — April 15, 2025 — The Jewish Theatre of Bloomington (JTB) will present Amy Herzog’s award-winning play 4000 Miles this May at the Waldron Rose Firebay. Directed by veteran theatre artist Bill Simmons, performances are scheduled for May 8, 10, 15, 17, and 18.

A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and winner of the Obie Award for Best New American Play, 4000 Miles is a moving exploration of intergenerational relationships, loss, and resilience. The play centers on 21-year-old Leo, who, following a traumatic cross-country bike trip, seeks refuge in the Greenwich Village apartment of his spirited 91-year-old grandmother, Vera. Over the course of a month, their unexpected connection unfolds with humor and emotional depth.

Martha Jacobs*, a long-time JTB collaborator and faculty member in Indiana University’s Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance, stars as Vera. She is joined by Ryan Eller as Leo. The pair previously worked together in the 2024 interactive staged reading of Another Antigone. Additional cast members include Sofia Salgado as Bec, Laura Rong as Amanda, and Rebecca Van Kirk providing the voice of Lily.

Director Bill Simmons brings decades of experience to the production, with credits spanning over 40 Phoenix Theatre productions. His past JTB performances include My Name is Asher Lev, Brooklyn Boy, and Sonia Flew.

Performance dates are Thursdays, May 8 and 15; Saturdays, May 10 and 17 at 7:30 p.m.; and a Sunday matinee on May 18 at 3:00 p.m. All shows will take place at the Waldron Rose Firebay, 122 S. Walnut St., Bloomington. Post-show talk backs will be held on May 10 and May 15, facilitated by Darrell Ann Stone.

Tickets and more information are available at www.jewishtheatrebloomington.com.

4000 Miles is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
