Frackville builds on community support for Little League opening day

FRACKVILLE – Frackville Little League kicked off the 2025 season celebrating new additions and recognizing a man who’d given much of his life to youth sports in the mountain city.

Knox Chuma threw the ceremonial first pitch, caught by dad Kris. Knox’s grandfather was the late John Chuma.

Frackville Little League is dedicating the 2025 season in John Chuma’s honor. He coached numerous youth sports teams since 1973, including helping Frackville win their first league title in 1995. He’s a member of the Jerry Wolman Northern Anthracite Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and has been recognized numerous times in the past few years for his service. He passed away last February.

Looking ahead, the league had one of the best registration years in recent history with 124 players and the addition of a 6th tee ball team.

Thanks to a major donation from EMD Electronics, Hometown, the league, in partnership with Frackville Softball and Frackville Borough, is breaking ground on a bathroom project at the complex.

They also have a new scoreboard at the baseball field. It comes with a pitch count display and was acquired with the help of CACL Financial, Pottsville.

Vito Rinaldi Chevrolet, in partnership with Chevy Youth Sports, is also pitching in $500 to the program and was recognized.

Prior to the league’s first games Sunday afternoon, the Little Leaguers paraded through the borough and were treated to an easter egg hunt.

Keira Blozousky, an 8th grader at North Schuylkill, performed the national anthem at opening day as well.
