72-year-old man dies in house fire in Ogontz

(WPHL) — An elderly man has died after getting trapped in a house fire in Ogontz.

According to police, the 72-year-old man died after a fire broke out at 11:46 p.m. on the 1600 block of West Chew Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, the house had smoke coming from inside.

As crews worked to extinguish the flames they discovered an unresponsive man in the rear bedroom of the home. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:08 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but investigators say they, “do not believe the fire is suspicious. ”
