Overnight fire at auto shop on Chicago’s Far South Side damages several vehicles, police say

CHICAGO — Multiple vehicles caught fire overnight at an auto shop in Cottage Grove Heights on the city’s Far South Side, according to Chicago police.

Police say when officers responded to a call of a fire an auto shop in the 1200 block of East 95th Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday, the Chicago Fire Department was already on scene extinguishing a fire on multiple vehicles.

Arriving firefighters found as many as eight vehicles on fire at the location, home to Ray’s Auto Sales & Service.

Officials with the Office of Fire Investigation also arrived to the scene, but police or fire officials have not yet issued any confirmation as to whether this is an arson investigation. No injuries were reported.

Additionally, the vehicles that caught fire were located in what appeared to be a storage yard. There didn’t appear to be any damage to the office or repair shop of the business.

There are also several homes located next to the storage yard, one about five feet away, but no damage was observed to the properties around the business.
