NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting that left five people wounded in the French Quarter on Sunday, April 13.
Around 8:30 p.m., NOPD officers responded to the corner of Iberville and Decatur streets on a call to a shooting in the area.
Responding officers arrived to find four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to a hospital by EMS.
A fifth victim later arrived to the hospital by car. Their conditions are unknown.
In a press conference following the shooting, NOPD Captain Samuel Palumbo said the incident was witnessed by an officer who was dispersing a large crowd following French Quarter Fest. The officer then chased and captured the suspect identified as Christopher Parker.
“What this shows, is how brazen this perpetrator is. We have officers with lights and sirens on basically surrounding the area and still chooses to do this,” said Palumbo.
Through an investigation, two firearms were found on scene.
Parker was booked into Central Lockup on five counts of relative to aggravated second-degree battery and a count of relative to illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
