Officers with the Rockford Police Department’s Specialized Community Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team responded around 11:25 p.m.
Authorities said when the officers arrived, the suspects – all male – ran off but were able to be apprehended.
A loaded handgun was recovered, police said.
Two of the teen suspects, aged 14 and 16, were charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and No Valid Firearm Owner’s Identification.
A 16-year-old teen was charged with Obstructing Identification, Resisting Arrest, and an outstanding Winnebago County warrant.
Two other teens, both 14, were charged with Obstructing Identification and Resisting Arrest.
Three teens were booked into Juvenile Detention; the later two 14 year olds were released to their parents ahead of a court date.
