Rideshare driver carjacked by passenger with gun overnight in New City, police say

CHICAGO — A rideshare driver was carjacked by his passenger overnight in New City on Chicago’s Southwest Side, according to police.

Police say a 47-year-old man was providing a rideshare service to an unidentified male. When they arrived at their destination in the 4500 block of South Hermitage Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, the male offender took out a gun and demanded the rideshare driver to exit the vehicle, according to police.

The driver complied, police say, and the offender drove off with the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, and nobody is in custody, police say. Area One detectives are investigating.
