According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the crash happened in the southbound lanes between the Sebree and Slaughters exits.
A release obtained by Eyewitness News says 61-year-old William Holmes left his driveway at a high rate of speed and drove across the road into the yard of his neighbor on West Lake Loop in Madisonville. The release goes on to say he then struck a woman raking leaves and sped off. The woman was later taken to the hospital by helicopter. Her condition has not yet been released.
Deputies say Holmes later drove into the back yard of a neighboring home, nearly missing a child and his father, running over the chair they were sitting in. Both the child and his father were unharmed.
Deputies then say Holmes was driving on I-69 in Webster County when he was involved in a crash that shut down the roadway for several hours. Officials say Holmes died in the crash.
Officials are still investigating the incident. Eyewitness News is working to get more information.
