State Rep. Tammy Phelps: La. legislature ‘feed the rich’

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Louisiana State Representative Tammy Phelps held a press conference to discuss the upcoming session of the Louisiana legislature.

Phelps said she is proud voters stood against ‘nonsensical’ amendments during the March 29th election. She hopes the public will hold state politicians accountable and says that voters should stay engaged in politics.

“Louisiana, we must continue to stand. It was a great day on March 29th just to see across the state from north to south, east to west, vice versa, all around that we finally stood up and said no to the things, the nonsensical legislation that the constitution amendments have come before us,” said Phelps.

During the press conference, Caddo Parish State Representative said the constitutional amendments from March 29th “would have taken money from working folks to put in the pocket of the rich folks” and that the federal government is in “turmoil leaving Louisiana with cuts to much-needed federal funds for education, health care and disaster recovery, Louisiana
needs all the help it can get.”

Phelps stated that she is headed back to Baton Rouge to ‘fight for sensible solutions that benefit all of Louisiana, not just the corporations and the rich.’

Vice Chair of the Shreveport City Council, Tabatha Taylor, echoes Representative Phelps’ statement, calling on residents of Shreveport to be engaged as “it affects us [locally], not just statewide.”

“So if you’ve never paid attention to politics before, I would suggest that you do now at every level, at the local level, at the state level and at the federal level, because these policies and if these bills or enacted, they are going to affect you directly regardless of where you are or what your income status is,” says Councilwoman for District A.

The Louisiana Legislative session begins Monday, April 14th, at noon.
