Record Store Day 2025 is a special day for 2nd Avenue Records in Portland. About six months ago, they were forced out of the building they were in for more than 40 years. But they opened their new location Saturday — and they’re still on 2nd Avenue, now between SW Pine and Ash, across the street from Kells.
The owners of 2nd Avenue Records told KOIN 6 News they’re thrilled to be in their new space and they felt like they owed it to the community to stay open.

Matt Krajicek, who works at 2nd Avenue Records, said he was convinced the store could reopen on this day. “And how cool would that be to have it be our reopening and Record Store Day all in one,” he said.
Shoppers Ian Walker and Jason Dronkowski were also very excited.
“It feels great. I mean, 2nd Avenue is an institution in Portland, so I’m glad they could find a spot,” Walker said.
Dronkowski admitted it “was looking a little dismal down here for a bit. And I’m really glad the all the businesses that have been down here for so long have really stuck it out. And, everybody’s working together to not really kick everybody out, but just clean things up a little bit and to keep supporting each other.”
Shoppers flocked to this new store and to other record stores around Portland as the city looks for ways to revitalize downtown. A recent survey from Portland Clean and Safe found businesses optimistic at levels not seen since the pandemic.
At Jackpot Records in Southeast Portland, lines stretched down the street and around the corner around 10 a.m. Saturday.
Owner Isaac Slusarenko said they had “people lined up at 3 a.m. ready to get the titles they’re most excited for.” He added they also had some limited releases and a DJ.
KOIN 6 News will have more information later in the night.
