Pennsylvania inmate handed death sentence by jury after murder of SCI Sergeant

SOMERSET, Pa. (WTAJ) — After three hours of deliberation, a jury has handed down the death penalty to Paul Kendrick.

Kendrick is the second youngest person to be on death row in the Commonwealth, as he just turned 30 at the beginning of April. The jury noted it found more aggravating circumstances than mitigating ones.

Kendrick was found guilty of murdering SCI Somerset Sergeant Mark Baserman in March. The court heard testimony over the past four days surrounding Baserman and his family as well as Kendrick and his conditions growing up.

He was already serving another life sentence at the time of Baserman’s death. Kendrick will have a presentencing investigation and will be sentenced officially at a later date.
