LAFAYETTE, La. (
KLFY) — A man has been arrested after a traffic stop in Lafayette led to the seizure of 70 lbs. of marijuana and other illegal drugs, authorities said.
Trevis Hudson, 23, was arrested Thursday and charged possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute promethazine, possession of money derived from drug proceeds and possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs.
Promethazine is a prescription antihistamine and sedative that is one of the ingredients in the narcotic concoction known as “purple drank.”
The investigation into Hudson and an alleged criminal organization known as “Only Dem Doonies” concerning narcotic sales, began on Dec. 29, authorities said.
Agents of the Lafayette Police Department’s Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop Thursday on a vehicle occupied by Hudson and two others. During the stop, officers found approximately 29 grams of marijuana, 250 milliliters of promethazine and $1,720 in cash. Hudson admitted to possessing these items, officials said.
After the traffic stop, police searched two locations to which Hudson had access, a residence in the 400 block of Marigold Loop and another in the 100 block of S. Meyers. The execution of these warrants and the traffic stop resulted in the seizure of the following:
- Approximately 70 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $631,916
- 4,601.1 milliliters of promethazine with an estimated street value of $46,601
- $3,933 in cash
- One electrical money counter
- Three digital scales
Hudson was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. His bond is set at $100,000.
