Jade Carey, Oregon State coaching staff honored

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon State coaching staff and Jade Carey were recognized in the 2025 Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association’s Regional Awards on Wednesday. In collegiate women’s gymnastics, the WCGA honors outstanding coaching, athletic accomplishment, and administrative leadership each year.

For the western region, Carey was named Gymnast of the Year after a stellar senior season coming off a gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She broke her own record in single-season event titles and scored the highest in three events at the Regional Final.

Carey has also locked in four perfect tens this year, all while leading the nation on both beam and in the all-around in the regular season. She won the Regional Championships in all five events, qualifying to compete in the all-around at the NCAA Championships on April 17 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Oregon State gymnastics assistant coaches Michael Chaplin, Kaytianna Kell, Brian Carey and administrator Jacque Bruns were all recognized by the WCGA as well. Bruns was recognized as Co-Administrator of the Year and all three Beaver assistants were named Co-Assistant Coaches of the Year.

Throughout the regular season, Chaplin’s bars lineup was ranked between No. 13 and No. 16, constantly placing them among the top in the country.

In 2025, Kell’s floor lineup dominated, spending seven weeks in the top 10 and peaking at No. 7 in the country. The Beavs’ floor lineup had the greatest rotation score of any event, scoring a team-high of 49.625 against Air Force on March 15 before securing OSU’s spot in the Sweet 16 with a 49.525 in the Regional Semifinal.

Kell was the NCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year by the WCGA in 2020 while serving on staff at Seattle Pacific. This makes the first honor he has received while coaching at Oregon State.

Consistency and skill development were hallmarks of Brian Carey’s 2025 vault squad, as several student-athletes upgraded their vaults to higher difficulties this season. This is his first honor as an Oregon State coach and after being a member of the coaching staff for Team USA Gymnastics.
