Dothan man accused of sending ‘suspicious’ letters with child porn to Alabama governor

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A Dothan man and former Alabama state employee is behind bars after state investigators claimed he sent “suspicious” letters containing child porn to state officials.

According to ALEA, John Watson Jr., 54, was arrested on Thursday and charged with four counts of dissemination of child pornography. He was booked into the Houston County Jail with no bond.

State investigators claimed they tied Watson to four letters that were sent to members of the Alabama House of Representatives and Governor Kay Ivey’s Office on Wednesday, April 9.

ALEA officials say the letters contained a “number of pornographic images.”

A release from ALEA reveals Watson was a former Driver License Examiner with ALEA’s Driver License Division and was placed on leave on Wednesday.

Watson resigned from the department before he was fired, state agents say.

The investigation is ongoing.
