DOTD begins work to improve safety at I-49 and Southern Loop

CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – By fall of 2025, there should be fewer traffic back-ups along I-49 southbound in south Caddo Parish. That’s the goal of a $1.5 million dollar project by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

The project to improve traffic flow and safety at the interchange with Southern Loop began on Thursday, April 10th. The project involves constructing a second southbound exit lane, next to the current lane. DOTD says this will help keep traffic from backing up onto the interstate, particularly during peak travel times.

The existing ramp will remain open during construction. DOTD asks drivers to be patient and drive with caution through the area, as crews and equipment will be on site.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete this fall.
