An investigation revealed that a 6-year-old, identified by family members as Mason Richards, was getting out of a car to get on the school bus when the crash happened. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
While impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, a routine field sobriety test was administered.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy.
