Officers said they responded to the 1700 block of Rousselin Street around 11:50 p.m. on April 9, on a call of a shooting in the area.
Upon arrival, two victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Hours later, around 1:26 a.m., officers reported the victims died from their injuries and reclassified the incident as a homicide.
NOPD Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick held a news conference following the crime where she announced that an arrest was made following a four hour stand off in the French Quarter.
She said the suspect had been experiencing a “mental health crisis.”
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identities of the victims after autopsies are done and the families are notified.
