Overnight 7th Ward double homicide under investigation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Two people are dead following an overnight shooting in the Seventh Ward, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Officers said they responded to the 1700 block of Rousselin Street around 11:50 p.m. on April 9, on a call of a shooting in the area.

Upon arrival, two victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Hours later, around 1:26 a.m., officers reported the victims died from their injuries and reclassified the incident as a homicide.

NOPD Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick held a news conference following the crime where she announced that an arrest was made following a four hour stand off in the French Quarter.

She said the suspect had been experiencing a “mental health crisis.”

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identities of the victims after autopsies are done and the families are notified.
