This year’s festival is set to happen from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6 with the message being We are “Made Like This.”
Essence began as a magazine dedicated to Black women since 1970. This year will mark its 55th year of celebrating Black culture through, fashion, panel discussions, initiatives and music.
The days of the fest will start with the daytime experiences at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center with the star-studded concerts kicking off the evening at the Caesars Superdome.
Fest officials say the performances will bring together legendary icons “spanning across generations and rising icons poised to shape the future of entertainment.”
Headliners include Boyz II Men, Davido, Master P and Maxwell. Other musicians joining them include:
Rapper and Record Producer Jermaine Dupre will present “ESSENCE Flowers,” a special tribute to “music titan” Quincy Jones.
Hosting the main stage this year is comedian Anthony Anderson and culture curator Kenny Burns.
“This year’s ESSENCE Festival of Culture® presented by Coca-Cola® is the continuation of a story 55 years in the making. What started on a page now lives on the stage. What we’re building isn’t new. It’s who we’ve always been. And the experience you’ll find this year in New Orleans didn’t just appear–it was Made Like This,” said festival officials.
Weekend ticket packages are currently on sale at Ticketmaster with prices ranging from $180 to $1,900. Single day tickets are currently not on sale.
