April is National Parkinson’s Awareness Month and to help spread awareness of resources available for Parkinson’s disease patients, the Baxter Health Mruk Family Center on Aging is holding a special event Friday from 9 to 1:30.
The event, which will take place at the Baxter Health Wellness Education Center, will feature vendor booths with information on Parkinson’s disease, early warning signs and resources. Additionally, hearing screenings, fall risk assessments, drum exercise classes, and a Q&A panel of experts will be available. Rocksteady Boxing will give a demonstration of their workout at noon.
Diahanne VanGulick, the coordinator for the Mruk Family Center on Aging, stresses the importance of understanding Parkinson’s disease.

VanGulick says vendors will also teach people the signs of early Parkinson’s, which will help patients get early treatment before symptoms worsen.

Two guest speakers will make an appearance throughout the day to give presentations on new research and treatments for Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

Free sandwiches, chips and water will be given out during the day and Nome’s Food Truck will be available to purchase from. Door prizes will be given out and admission is free.
