Louisiana DCFS employee arrested after drugs found in car during traffic stop

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — An employee of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

Troop NOLA troopers pulled over Anthony Reed, 27, of New Orleans, around noon after multiple traffic violations on North Claiborne Avenue near Elysian Fields Avenue. Troopers reportedly found around 218 grams of suspected marijuana in the back seat of the car, along with items consistent with drug distribution.

Reed was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on one charge of possession with intent to distribute schedule I (marijuana) and traffic-related offenses.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this case can send an anonymous tip through LSP’s online reporting system or call 1-800-434-8007.

DCFS issues statement

“The safety and well-being of children and families is our highest priority. When a situation arises involving one of our staff members that calls that commitment into question, we take it seriously.

We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for their continued collaboration and dedication to public safety. Their work plays an essential role in upholding accountability and maintaining trust across the systems that serve Louisiana’s families.”
DCFS Secretary David Matlock
