The chilly pattern that has dominated the past several days is not letting go just yet. A persistent northwesterly jet stream out of Canada is the culprit behind the cooler-than-normal temperatures.
Highs Thursday and Friday will continue that trend, but some moderation is likely well inland, away from the chilly influence of Lake Michigan, where low 50s will be common.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with showers continuing at times throughout the evening. Precipitation is likely to scatter before ending late towards midnight. Low: 32.
Rainfall totals will remain fairly low, however, with total precipitation likely between 0.20 and 0.50 inches across the Chicagoland metro area.
THURSDAY: A fourth consecutive unseasonably cool day with high temperatures not making it out of the 40s. A good deal of cloudiness persists along with some patchy morning fog and perhaps a few isolated showers and or sprinkles possible. Lake breezes will restrict highs near Lake Michigan to the low 40s while the mildest inland locations top out in the upper 40s. Winds: NNE 5-12 mph. High: 48.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Pesky cloud cover lingers, but some breaks possible in Friday’s predawn hours. Winds: NE 5-10 mph. Low: 35.
Clouds are likely to hang on for the most part on Thursday and a few spotty showers or sprinkles cannot be ruled out.
A progressive pattern is forecast to continue by and large, which favors western ridging (significantly above normal temperatures) and noteworthy troughing over the Great Lakes and Northeast keeping temperatures cooler than normal overall.
