Water and fears continue to rise in Henderson County after several days of relentless rain.
Francis Scott says her home feels like it is on an island. What used to be a large green yard is now covered in water.
“This is my backyard… it is getting up close to my house,” says Scott. “And this is a good view of backyard and pond… it is like a river now and it’s probably up to my waist”
Scott says her family can’t leave the house without a kayak, Before the sun comes up, she grabs her boots and paddle to take her husband to the car, so he can get to work.
Both Scott and county officials fear it will only get worse in the coming days. To stay ahead, Henderson EMA set up a command post to serve as a hub for first responders.
“The volunteer fire department is involved – our sheriff’s office, our ambulance service is involved,” says Henderson EMA Director Kenny Garrett. “The salvation army and the American Red Cross is here and FEMA is standing by and ready to go as things get worse.”
Henderson EMA has a drone available to help prepare by having eyes in the sky.
