Woman drives herself to hospital after Abbeville shootout

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A woman drove herself to a hospital after a shootout this weekend in Abbeville.

Officials said they received a call on April 5 regarding a shooting that occurred at the intersection of I J Joiner and Martin Luther King Drive where the caller informed them that she was shot and was driving herself to the hospital.

Officials said several other callers advised they heard multiple shots from high-powered weapons.

Officials said information from community cameras showed an older black Chevrolet van with a Texas license plate, and a late model blue Dodge Charger with a Louisiana license plate were involved in the shooting.

Officials said the Charger had four occupants in the vehicle and two of the occupants stepped out of the vehicle and fired a .223 rifle and a 40-caliber pistol toward the van as it made a turn onto I J Joiner. The Charger then drives off, with the van following, and the driver of the van returns fire, shooting through the windshield.

Officials said the driver of the van was struck twice, once in the arm and once in the torso area. After the driver drove herself to an Abbeville hospital, she was later transferred to a trauma facility in Lafayette.

The Charger was tracked down and came back to the owner, Don’s Wholesale. Officials located the vehicle at Sateen Royale Trailer Park in Carencro.

Both vehicles have been towed to be searched for evidence.

No arrests have been made in this case. We will update as more information is released.
