Parish officials said the project is “the largest road project in St. Tammany history” and will include a 3.5-mile, two-lane divided road to connect Louisiana 1088 and U.S. 190.
According to the parish, the new road will help reduce traffic and improve safety.
“We have promised real roadway solutions, to ease traffic and boost safety. Today, these promises have been delivered. This is not just about our needs for today, but for our children and grandchildren,” said St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper.
The project is also set to include entrances to Pelican Park.
Parish officials said residents can also vote for the new roadway’s name on the parish website. The names include Adrien Rouquette Parkway, Brown Pelican Parkway, Buchawa Boulevard and Coyote Crossing.
