Southwest Airlines starts nonstop flights from Jackson to Nashville

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) and Southwest Airlines welcomed passengers on the inaugural nonstop flight to Nashville on April 8.

The theme was “Blues and Boots” in honor of the musical heritage of both Jackson and Nashville. City and state leaders gathered to cut the ribbon while guests were treated to live music and refreshments. Passengers from Nashville were greeted by cheerleaders from Callaway High School.

Rhonda Scott, with Southwest Airlines, believes this first flight will open the doors for more international travel out of Jackson.

“It’s huge. This opportunity offers, through Nashville, the future of having international travel to connect you to those cities. Our network, we have one of the most diverse networks in the industry, and it just gives this local community and the state of Mississippi an opportunity to take advantage of that for their travel needs,” Scott said.

Several guests were given $100 gift cards to book their first flights with Southwest.
