Salt Lake Bees celebrate first home game at new Daybreak ballpark

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — Today is the day, baseball fans. The Salt Lake Bees are playing their first home game of the 2025 season at their home in the Daybreak neighborhood of South Jordan.

The Bees will welcome the Reno Aces for a six-game homestand starting April 8, which will include giveaways, music, and activities for the whole family.

The first game game is expected to start at 6:35 p.m. with the first pitch at the new stadium and a flyover during the National Anthem.

“We are excited to welcome fans to the Salt Lake Bees’ brand new hive, The Ballpark at America First Square,” said Bees General Manager Ty Wardle. “The Ballpark is open on April 8, but fans can expect ongoing construction in the surrounding square. We will have a season of openings this summer. Please pardon our dust as we get settled into the new ballpark and continue to build out America First Square.”

Construction of the new ballpark has been underway since its groundbreaking in October 2023. Earlier that year, the Bees had announced they would be leaving downtown Salt Lake City’s Smith’s Ballpark – a space they had called home since 1994.

The new ballpark will have a capacity of 8,000 fans with open-lawn, premium, club and field-level seating options, according to the team. New amenities include locally inspired concessions, kid play zones, an expansive video board as well as parking and a nearby UTA Red Line TRAX station.

The Ballpark at America First Square will anchor a new entertainment district being constructed in the Daybreak community. Once completed, the district will also feature a Megaplex entertainment center, retail, and restaurants.

As for the Bees’ old home in Salt Lake City, Mayor Erin Mendenhall said the city will move forward with refurbishing the Smith’s Ballpark to create “something new while honoring the location’s history.”

During her State of the City address in January, Mendenhall revealed the west wing of the ballpark will be repurposed to house an entertainment venue as well as creative spaces and retail. Meanwhile, the ballfield will be transformed into a mixed-use urban space and community park.
