ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Cynthia Beck, 43, for giving her child a black eye, according to court records.

On April 7, officers were called to the 1500 block of Garden Court for reports of child abuse. When authorities spoke to the child, she had bruising and redness around her right eye.

Beck threw a piece of a broken fan that hit the girl in the face, court documents show.

The suspect told authorities the broken fan piece flew off and hit the child when she accidentally knocked it over. She denied picking up the fan cover and throwing it, officers reported.

Beck is charged with aggravated battery of a child and domestic battery causing bodily harm.
