Portland native stepping in as Denver Nuggets interim coach

PORTLAND, Ore. (Portland Tribune) — After the shocking announcement of Michael Malone being let go as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, one of Oregon’s own is stepping in for the interim.

David Adelman, son of Portland Trail Blazers coaching legend Rick Adelman, was announced as the interim head coach as the Nuggets prepare for the playoffs, which start next week.

Adelman has been an assistant in Denver since 2017, joining the staff two years after Malone took over in 2015.

Adelman, 43, was born in Salem and eventually attended Jesuit High School where he was a member of the basketball team and helped the Crusaders win the 1999 4A state title. After graduating from Jesuit, he returned to the school as an assistant coach under Gene Potter in 2002 and helped the Crusaders win another state title in 2005.

Adelman spent one more season with Jesuit before becoming the head coach at Lincoln High School from 2006-2011. During his time downtown, the Cardinals won the PIL three times and reached the 2009 state title game, losing to Potter and Jesuit 63-41.
