Police searching for armed suspects who entered unfinished apartment complex in Millcreek

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.

MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — Police officers from several agencies responded to an unfinished Millcreek apartment complex late Monday night after receiving reports of armed suspects in one of the buildings. The suspects have not yet been located.

According to Sgt. Aymee Race with the Unified Police Department, six to eight armed suspects dressed in black entered a building in the complex around 9:40 p.m. on Monday. Police said there are no residents in the building, as the complex is still under construction.

Before entering the building, one of the suspects allegedly threatened a security guard with a gun and told the guard not to call the police. However, the security guard notified officials, after which officers from several different agencies responded to the scene.

“We have been doing searches throughout those complexes,” Race told ABC4.com. “There aren’t people inside of them, they’re just being built currently, and so we’ve had the help of multiple agencies out here clearing those in search for those individuals.”

Officials said it was not clear where the suspects had come from before entering the complex. As of about 11:50 p.m. on Monday, no suspects had yet been found, according to Race.

Vehicles from South Jordan police, Salt Lake City police, and other agencies were at the scene. Race said there was such a large police presence on Monday because of the size of the buildings in the complex, which are each several stories tall.

“Just for officers’ safety, the more officers we have to clear this, the better,” Race said.

Officials said it was unclear how long police would remain at the scene. There is no further information at this time.

MJ Jewkes, Dennis Dolan, and Ryland Sparrow contributed to this report.
