Person struck and killed on DuSable Lake Shore Drive

CHICAGO — DuSable Lake Shore Drive has been reopened after it was closed for several hours Monday morning while Chicago police investigated a fatal vehicle-on-pedestrian crash.

According to police, a 72-year-old man was standing in the median of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive when he was struck and killed just after 5 a.m., shutting down all lanes of northbound DuSable LSD at Roosevelt Road.

Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck in the 1100 block of S. DuSable LSD. The truck, being driven by a 26-year-old man, was going north and had a green light at the location of the crash, police say.

The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and declined medical attention, according to police, and no other injuries were reported. Police say no citations have been issued.

Meanwhile, the crash and police investigation caused significant traffic delays and backups Monday morning on DuSable LSD. In addition to all lanes on northbound DuSable LSD being closed at the scene, all lanes were closed on southbound DuSable LSD from East Balbo Drive to Roosevelt Rd. as police investigated.

Police announced that as of about 9:15 a.m. Monday, all northbound lanes on DuSable LSD have reopened.
