Jackson plans new amphitheater for zoo to boost visitor experience

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson leaders announced plans for a new amphitheater at the Jackson Zoo.

According to officials, the proposed amphitheater will enhance the visitor experience by providing a dedicated venue for live performances, educational programs, and community events. The project, designed by Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc., includes a modern performance space, an enhanced wetland experience, and improved pedestrian connectivity to key areas within the zoo.

“This amphitheater represents a step forward in our ongoing efforts to revitalize the Jackson Zoo and create new opportunities for residents and visitors,” said Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba. “By integrating entertainment with education and conservation, we aim to make the zoo a year-round destination for all ages.”

Construction is projected to begin in July 2025, with completion anticipated by December 2025.
