A Pottstown Borough police officer was shot during an incident in the borough, according to Montgomery County Commissioners Chairman Neil Makhija.
The officer was taken to a Reading hospital where he is in stable condition, the commissioner said.
A police tactical team was on scene in the area of Winding Road in Pottstown.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the incident stems from a crash earlier Sunday in the borough.
Pottstown Police responded to a two car crash at Beech and North Mount Vernon in the borough around 5 p.m. One of the occupants of the vehicle attempted to reach for a firearm before fleeing to his home on Winding Road.
There, he opened fire on responding officers, striking one in the shoulder. Officers returned fire and did not strike the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Sunday.
