The announcement was made in a letter sent to football families Monday afternoon.
According to the letter, Newman conducted a national search to fill the position, and Coach Vice was selected from a pool of 56 applicants.
Vice has over 15 years of football experience. He spent the last three years as the offensive coordinator at University Lab in Baton Rouge.
Before his time with the Cubs, he served as the offensive coordinator at Central High School.
Prior to his time in the high school football ranks, Vice was a graduate assistant at LSU under head coach Les Miles and tight ends coach Steve Ensminger.
Vice will assume his duties as Newman’s head football coach in May.
He will take over for Nelson Stewart, who spent 19 years as the Greenies’ head football coach.
Stewart amassed 162 wins with playoff appearances each year, six trips to the semi-final round, and seven district titles.
