Local students’ artwork featured in Rockford Art Museum’s 84th Young Artist Show

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Artwork made by students from local schools was unveiled at the opening ceremony of the Rockford Art Museum’s 84th annual Young Artist Show.

A child from each grade level, from kindergarten to 8th grade, received a recognition award and a goody gift bag during the presentation.

Artwork of all kinds was accepted, from crayon and acrylic drawings to clay sculptures and mixed media. This show follows last month’s show that featured the work of high schoolers.

After just the first hour, over six hundred people, including students, teachers, and family members, had come to the gallery. At the end of the day that number climbed to well over one thousand.

One 8th-grade artist showed us her dragon is more than just a solid immovable structure. It’s a character of her own creation that moves like a puppet, and has different forms on each side.

In addition to teaching herself through tutorials she finds online, Maddie says that her teachers have helped her with some of her work, and her aunts have been an inspiration for her art.
