IMPD: 2 teens arrested after reported shooting on near northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — Two teens were arrested after reportedly shooting into a car on the near northeast side of Indianapolis early Sunday morning.

According to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, an officer was patrolling in the area of the 1600 block of Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue at around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

At that time, the department said the officer saw and heard multiple shots being fired from a white Dodge Avenger into another occupied vehicle. The officer attempted a traffic stop on the Dodge Avenger, but the vehicle reportedly did not stop.

IMPD said that a pursuit occurred between the officer and the Dodge Avenger until the vehicle stopped just before the intersection of East 17th Street on Columbia Avenue.

The release said that a passenger, later identified as 18-year-old Dontea Miles, left the vehicle and ran away from officers. Miles was later taken into custody. IMPD officers then conducted a stop on the vehicle and arrested the driver, identified as 18-year-old Adarius Mosely.

Detectives at the scene reportedly recovered two firearms, one of which was found in the area where Miles reportedly ran away from officers. The other firearm was reportedly located inside the Dodge Avenger.

As officers were conducting an investigation into the incident, the release said two people with gunshot wounds had walked into a local hospital. IMPD later linked the victims to this specific shooting.

The man who was reportedly shot in the incident was treated at the hospital and later released, IMPD said. A woman who was shot remains in stable condition, according to the release.

Both Miles and Mosley were arrested on the following preliminary charges:

  • Miles
    • Aggravated battery
    • Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
    • Resisting law enforcement (fleeing on foot)
  • Mosely
    • Aggravated battery
    • Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
    • Resisting law enforcement (fleeing in a vehicle)

The release said that the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions.
