I-80 cutting down to one lane starting Tuesday, delays expected

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — I-80 is being reduced to one lane between 7200 West and 5600 West starting on Tuesday, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. Construction in the area is expected to last around two weeks.

Drivers should expect significant delays on I-80 near 6000 West over the next two weeks. Construction — which will consist of bridge maintenance — will begin Tuesday, April 8, at 5 a.m.

I-80 will reportedly be reduced to one lane in both directions between 7200 West and 5600 West.

“We recommend drivers use alternate routes to avoid delays,” UDOT Region Two Project Manager John Montoya said. “The work we’re doing will add years to the life of the bridge, allowing people to get to where they’re going safely and efficiently.”

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.
