New Orleans drafted Armstead 75th overall in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Alum played nine of his twelve years in the Black and Gold, earning five Pro Bowl selections and a 2018 second-team All-Pro nod.
In a statement, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis praised Armstead’s character and skillset. “He was an outstanding player, teammate and friend. We look forward to formally recognizing his outstanding accomplishments in front of our tremendous fanbase,” Loomis said.
Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees also spoke highly of the former Black and Gold lineman. “I could not have asked for more from a teammate for the eight years we were together, whom I am also proud to call a friend,” Brees added in another statement.
Armstead finished his career with a three-year stint at the Miami Dolphins.
