BREAKING: Six EF-1 tornadoes confirmed from Saturday night’s storms across Tennessee Valley

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The National Weather Service in Huntsville has confirmed six tornadoes touched down in the Tennessee Valley during storms on Saturday night following multiple surveys.

Storm surveys took place in Colbert and Lauderdale counties on Sunday and in Jackson/Marshall County and Franklin County, Tenn. on Monday following Saturday night’s storms. The survey teams found that the damage was associated with six separate EF-1 tornadoes.

The maximum winds for these tornadoes ranged from 90 to 105 mph, with the strongest winds being associated with the EF-1 that moved through Muscle Shoals and Tuscumbia. Two of these tornadoes were located in Colbert County, and the third occurred in Lauderdale County.

An EF-1 tornado with maximum winds of 90 mph caused damage near the Sheffield area. This tornado developed from a supercell thunderstorm, a rotating storm, near Pride Al. This tornado produced about an 8.50-mile-long damage path.

Where it initially touched down, numerous trees were damaged or uprooted, and a small farm building sustained minor roof damage. As the tornado continued along an easterly track, more widespread tree damage was observed, with some causing damage to single-family homes. The tornado lifted just west of Highway 43.

A secondary tornado, originating from the same storm as the Sheffield tornado, was ranked an EF-1 with maximum winds of 105 mph. This tornado produced just under a 12.50-mile-long damage path, taking it through Tuscumbia and Muscle Shoals.

This tornado touched down just south of Highway 72 near Hawk Pride Mountain Road before tracking along County Road 24 into Tuscumbia. Along the damage path in Tuscumbia, trees were uprooted and a hardwood tree was snapped at the trunk.

As it continued its easterly track into Muscle Shoals it caused significant damage in the Holiday Trailer Park area. Several large trees were uprooted and onto trailers. A total of five injuries were reported here. The tornado then tracked just north of the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport.

It’s important to note that this is one area the NWS may revisit to see if the tornado lifted before crossing the river or continued straight into Lauderdale County.

The third tornado occurred in Lauderdale County, beginning near the Aqua Vista Community. This EF-1 tornado had maximum winds of 95 mph, producing a damage path of just over nine miles.

Several trees were uprooted or snapped along the path, and several homes off Bull Run Rd. were missing shingles and a large portion of a fence. Out in the Elgin area, more large trees were uprooted and snapped.

Thanks to some drone video from the Lauderdale County EMA, the National Weather Service confirmed a second tornado track in Lauderdale County, just north of the Aqua Vista track. It was also rated as an EF-1 tornado. It was in Center Star with maximum winds of 90 mph.
