Gov. Andy Beshear reported the news he was missing on Monday morning. According to KSP, Lee Chandler, 27, was last seen around 3:45 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 6, in the 8000 block of Elliot Road in the Kevil community.
Troopers said he was swept away by floodwaters while trying to retrieve his boat, which was later located.
“And today we can report that we have a missing person in McCracken County that there is an ongoing search for that we’re very worried about,” Beshear said in the conference.
Officials were using all available resources, including boats and drones, to try and locate Chandler, according to KSP.
Around 3:30 p.m., troopers announced his body was recovered from floodwaters.
“We would like to remind the public to use extreme caution and avoid flooded areas. Waters continue to rise in many areas. Never drive, walk, or attempt to swim into floodwaters as the conditions below the water are unknown and flood currents are often much stronger than they appear on the surface,” KSP wrote.
