7-year-old boy dies, 5 seriously injured after crash on Hwy 97

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 7-year-old boy was killed in a crash on Friday night on Hwy 97, Oregon State Police announced.

Additionally, five people were seriously injured in the two-car crash, including a 4-year-old boy.

The crash took place near Milepost 65 in Wasco County.

OSP said that the driver of a Honda CRV “attempted to pass a commercial motor vehicle in a no-passing zone and struck a northbound Volkswagen Atlas.”

The 7-year-old boy riding in the Honda was killed in the crash. The driver of the car and a 4-year-old passenger were seriously injured and taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen and the two passengers in the vehicle were also seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

“An unlawful pass is considered a primary cause of the crash,” OSP said.
