It appears we’re not done with snow just yet this year in Chicagoland.

But it won’t be here on Sunday, as conditions look to stay cool and mostly cloudy, but dry, around the area before snow gets into the forecast to start the work week.

Early-morning temperatures Sunday were in the 30s and creeping into the low 40s, a little chillier than they were early Saturday morning.

High temps Sunday will reach about 50 inland, but northeast winds coming off Lake Michigan all day will keep lakeside highs in the mid-40s.

Then, high temps dip down into the upper 30s on Monday, well below average for this time of year. With that will come gusty snow showers that are forecast to begin Monday morning and last all the way into early Monday afternoon, perhaps lingering in some locations until mid-afternoon.

This should be a quick, heavy snowfall, and though it could be a pain for Monday morning commuters, no significant accumulation is expected.

And after the cold start to the work week, temps will start to climb again back to more usual April norms (see below).

Looking Ahead

Highs for the first part of the work week will be well below average for this time of year, as the graphics below for Monday and Tuesday demonstrate:

During the month of April, normal highs at O’Hare International Airport climb from the mid-50s at the start of the month to the mid-60s by the end of the month:

As you can see in the 7-day forecast, as of now, temps are projected to climb back to more normal levels for the first half of April by the end of the coming work work, once we get through the colder-than-usual start to the week:
