LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A fatal two vehicle crash on LA. 719 near Ridge Road in Lafayette Parish on April 4, authorities said.

The crash claimed the life of Charlene Martin, 59, Slidell, authorities said.

During the investigation, it was revealed that a vehicle driven by Katie Owens of Slidell, was traveling south on LA. 719 and at the same time another vehicle was traveling north on LA. 719. For reason unknown, allegedly the vehicle driven by Owens failed to yield to the approaching vehicle traveling north as it attempted to turn left on Ridge Road, authorities said.

According to authorities, they said Martin was in the passenger seat of the Owens’ vehicle and died at the scene. Both Owens and the other driver sustained moderate injuries.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis, authorities said.

This crash remains under investigation.
