A Missouri man is dead after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters Friday evening in West Plains. The body of the unidentified 57-year-old male from O’Fallon was later recovered by the West Plains Fire Department.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just before 6 as the vehicle was washed off the roadway at Howell Creek near Missouri Avenue. The driver reportedly exited his vehicle and succumbed to the water.
The male was later located by a highway patrol trooper. The victim’s body was recovered by the fire department, and he was pronounced dead just before 10:30 by the Howell County coroner. The vehicle has not been recovered.
The male’s death is the first drowning reported reported this year by Troop G. The Howell County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
