Set in 1987 Oakland, “Freaky Tales” weaves together four connected stories about music, movies, love, loyalty, and some seriously strange moments. It’s a wild ride through a city full of heart, history, and unexpected magic — but bloody and violent at the same time.
Both Patrick and Richard enjoyed the film, and think the interconnected stories evoke Quentin Tarantino’s work, but may split audiences by which one they preferred to have explored more. Patrick mentions that he saw this during the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and remembers the crowd-pleasing moments that are sure to continue in theaters this weekend. Both Patrick and Richard say “See It.”

When a mysterious portal pulls two misfit teens into the blocky, unpredictable world of Minecraft, they find themselves in a land full of danger, magic, and endless imagination. To make it home, they’ll need to team up with an unexpected guide named Steve and learn to survive the Overworld — one wild block at a time.
Patrick found ” A Minecraft Movie” to have lots of humor, great nods to the game, and Easter eggs for fans to be hyped about. The characters played by Jack Black and Jason Momoa were fun, and the chemistry worked great for the film. While the story was a little more surface-level for him, Patrick thinks this will be a hit for families looking to give their kids a fun time at the theaters.
Richard, on the other hand, disagrees that the theatrical experience is strong enough, citing the first act of the movie as being too slow for kids to connect to. While he agrees that the movie is made with fans in mind, he doesn’t believe it’s one he could recommend.
Make sure to watch Patrick’s interviews with Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and director Jared Hess on See It or Skip It.
